Denny N. Buchannon (BSGE 83) and his wife, Robin (MSGE 85, PhD 95), not only work for their alma mater, but they also are financially supporting it through the School of Engineering’s Woods Society.

Denny Buchannon joined the university in 2001 and is a project engineer for the Physical Plant Department.

Robin Buchannon serves as assistant vice chancellor for research and sponsored programs.

“I started working here in June 1984 as a geologist for the Mississippi Mineral Resources Institute,” she said. “I’d earned my Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1979 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.”

Denny Buchannon’s belief in the School of Engineering led him to become a member of the Woods Society.

“Everyone needs to give back at some point, whether it is to your church, community or school,” he said. “We specified that our donation to the Woods Society will go to support student organizations, field trips and student-used laboratories. Hopefully, our involvement is a challenge to others to get involved whenever you can.”

Gifts such as the Buchannons’ are much appreciated, said Kevin Gardner, development officer for the engineering school.

“The Buchannons’ membership reflects an exceptional action of support, which is worth noting,” Gardner said. “It is inspiring to witness our School of Engineering graduates — and in this case, employees of Ole Miss — finding a way to support their passions. Student activities being made possible by these funds range from the Career Fair at The Inn at Ole Miss on campus to an Engineers Without Borders project in Togo, Africa, and everything in between.”

Membership contributions dedicated to the Woods Society assure that outstanding opportunities increase for many more engineering students for generations to come.
