U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales is to be in Oxford tomorrow (June 21) to talk with honors students at the University of Mississippi and visit the campus civil rights monument to commemorate individuals who strove to create educational opportunities for all citizens in the South. During the visit to the monument, he plans to deliver a brief statement and take questions from the media.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Time Change for Keynote Address at Civil Rights Education Summit

Because of the speaker's schedule, the time of the keynote address for the third annual Civil Rights Education Summit has changed. Noted historian John Hope Franklin, who served on President Bill Clinton's Initiative on Race, is to deliver the speech at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (June 27) in Nutt Auditorium of Scruggs Hall.

A media availability is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 26) in Jackson featuring Tucker Carrington, director of the new Mississippi Innocence Project at the University of Mississippi School of Law, and Cedric Willis of Jackson, who was exonerated on charges of murder and robbery in 2005 after DNA evidence cleared him of the crimes.

The 1.7 million registered voters in the state are expected to turn out in near-record numbers today in Republican and Democratic primaries. Many of the posts will be decided, while in others the winners will either face a runoff Aug. 28 or advance to the Nov. 6 general election.
