OXFORD, Miss. Quink, an internationally recognized vocal
ensemble, performs Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Gertrude C. Ford
Center for the Performing Arts at the University of
Mississippi.
Since its debut in 1978, the Dutch quintet has joined the
ranks of the top a cappella groups of the world and is
often invited to perform at prestigious concerts worldwide,
said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $10 and available at the
UM Box Office in the Student Union or by calling
662-915-7411.
Quink's widely varied repertoire includes music from the
Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as works by Romantic
composers. The ensemble's performances include folk songs
and close harmony pieces, with concluding lighter
arrangements. The group has introduced many new works by
both established and modern masters. A number of
contemporary Dutch, German and American compositions have
been dedicated to Quink.
The ensemble's first international recognition came in 1983
when it was named a finalist in a major European music
competition, which led to performance invitations from
around the world. Music by Quink is often featured on
radio, and the group makes frequent appearances on national
and international television.
Thanks to the success of its first United States tour in
1985, the group often tours the U.S. twice a year. Quink
made its Italian debut tour in 1987, and in spring 1998,
performed at festivals in Tel Aviv and Singapore. The
ensemble's performance schedule includes tours throughout
Europe and the Far East.
