OXFORD, Miss. - University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones, who spent
seven years in a Korean hospital earlier in his career, will discuss
"Medical Teaching and Research as Tools in Reconciliation"
Tuesday (Oct. 27) on the Oxford campus.
The free public lecture is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Bancroft Conference Room (Room
107) of the Croft Institute for International Studies.
Jones plans to discuss his experiences in Korea and how humanitarian efforts
can help end conflicts. The event is sponsored by the Croft
Institute.
"Reconciliation between countries can be communicated through
dialogue or it can be demonstrated through action," Jones said.
"I'm a firm believer in the idea that actions speak louder than
words."
In 1985, Jones began treating patients and teaching at Wallace Memorial Baptist
Hospital in Pusan, South Korea. He joined the UM Medical Center faculty
in Jackson in 1992, then soon became dean of the School of Medicine and
vice chancellor for health affairs. He became the university's chancellor
this summer, upon Robert C. Khayat's retirement.
