BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the heels of a huge win by the Ole Miss men’s tennis team last Friday to close out the SEC home schedule, Ricardo Jorge was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Jorge (Tavira, Portugal) went 5-1 in singles and doubles last week to help the Rebels to a perfect 6-0 week, including the win over No. 10 Texas A&M in Coach Chadwick’s last SEC home match of his career.  It also marked the Rebels’ first top-10 win of the season.

After a loss at No. 2 doubles against the Aggies, Jorge rebounded to win his singles match in straight sets at No. 5 singles to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead.  Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jorge played No. 1 singles for the first time ever.   He improved to 11-5 overall, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Ole Miss will be in Nashville, Tenn., this week for the SEC Tournament Championship.  The Rebels will face sixth-seeded Tennessee in the second round Thursday at 9 a.m.
