OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi’s Meek School of Journalism and New Media is hosting the first “Expand Your Brand” conference, an intensive, one-day event for journalists, marketers, business owners and anyone interested in growing their business through the power of social and mobile media.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.-6 p.m. March 27 in Farley Hall.

The keynote speaker will be Rob King, ESPN senior vice president of content for ESPN Digital & Print Media, who recently took control of the network’s “SportsCenter” program. King plans to share insights about ESPN branding and editorial strategies across multiple platforms. The day will feature additional speakers and learning sessions on strategic planning for new media, monetizing social media, understanding search engine optimization, the role of design in branding and more. One goal of the program is to create more linkage between what’s going on in the Meek School and businesses and other organizations throughout the area, said Scott Fiene, assistant professor and director of the undergraduate integrated marketing communications program.

“We have tremendous expertise here in new media, and we want to leverage that to help others in the region,” Fiene said.

“It’s a rare organization that doesn’t have to engage in the new media environment today,” said Debora Wenger, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in journalism, who will be presenting during the conference. “Whether it’s improving your strategic planning, developing a better understanding of your audience or learning how to expand your brand through social media, we’re bringing the expertise to help you do it to campus.”

Registration for the conference is $100 before Feb. 14 and $150 thereafter. For more information, visit http://olemissnewmedia.com or contact Susan O’Keefe at saokeefe@olemiss.edu.
