Megabus to Discontinue Service to Oxford, Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Due to low ridership and profitability, all Megabus routes from Oxford will be discontinued after Dec. 16. Launched in January 2014, MegaBus offered three daily arrivals and departures from the university’s Kudzu Lot on Old Taylor Road.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance transportation options and will continue to do so for the university and surrounding community,” said Mike Harris, Director of Parking and Transportation. “Some will be successful, while others may prove not to be. The key is to continue to work together as a community to provide as many options as possible.”

A statement provided by Megabus did not rule out a return of the routes to the Oxford and Ole Miss community in the future.

“Unfortunately due to insufficient ridership, the New Orleans-Jackson-Oxford-Memphis route will be discontinued on December 16. There is always the possibility of resuming service on this route or adding additional service options in the future if there is a customer demand,” said Sean Hughes, Associate Director of Corporate Affairs at Coach USA North America.
