Annual Greek Cup Set for April 5-6 on Campus

Event by Alpha Tau Omega fraternity will raise money for the Ole Miss Collegiate Recovery Community

OXFORD, Miss. – The annual Alpha Tau Omega fraternity Greek Cup is set for this weekend with teams from different sororities competing in five events to raise money for the Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) at Ole Miss.

This is the first year ATO has partnered with the CRC. In previous years, the event has raised as much as $40,000 for designated charities or organizations. The mission of the CRC is to provide recovering students with the resources and support to achieve academic success and to have a fulfilling collegiate experience without the use of alcohol or drugs.

Sororities receive points based on their ranking in the events, and the sorority with the most points at the end of the five events will receive the Greek Cup. Events include collecting money for coin buckets at the Student Union and in sorority houses on campus and creating banners to be hung by each sorority in front of their respective house. The banners will be judged on cleverness, creativity and presentation.

The main event, the annual soccer tournament, will take place over the weekend (April 5-6), starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the intramural fields. At noon, there will be a barbecue lunch, and games will continue through Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

“I’m really excited about this year’s Greek Cup, and ATO’s partnership with the Collegiate Recovery Community,” said Stephan Castellanos, Ole Miss ATO philanthropy chair. “It’s important that we as a Greek community help those around us who may be struggling with addiction and that we are sensitive to it. Too often, we get caught up in the vacuum of our own lives.”

Those wishing to get involved or donate should come by the barbecue at noon on Saturday or drop a donation in the ATO box in front of the Student Union.
