Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet Performs Oct. 6 at Ford Center

OXFORD, Miss. – The acclaimed Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet is slated to kick off the 2010-11 season at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 6.

“The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet is a very well-established quintet,” said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director. “This is a wonderful, classy and fun way to start the Artist Series season. The quintet is adored by many for their skill and sensitive interpretation of wind ensemble compositions.”

The show is set for 8 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $28 for various seating. Tickets are available by calling 662-915-7411, by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or the Ford Center Box Office at 10 a.m. on the day of the show, or by going to http://www.fordcenter.org.

Founded in 1988, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet is acclaimed for its ability to astonish audiences worldwide with its range of expression, tonal spectrum and conceptual unity. Many listeners and critics agree that the ensemble has succeeded in virtually redefining the sound of the classic wind quintet.

In addition to their concert appearances throughout Europe, North and South America, Israel, Australia and the Far East, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet is also popular at international festivals such as the Berliner Festwochen, the Edinburgh Festival, the London Proms, the Quintette-Biennale Marseille, the Rheingau Festival and the Salzburg Festival.

Easterbrook said he thinks this will be one of the nicest seasons for the Artist Series.

“The series is a University of Mississippi tradition with a well-established track record of quality presentations, thanks to the hard work of the university faculty, staff and students who have managed the series in the past and serve on the series advisory committee,” Easterbrook said.
