Cirque Éloize’s ‘Saloon’ Swings into Town

Musical acrobatic act performs Feb. 25 at UM Ford Center

OXFORD, Miss. – Traveling troupe Cirque Éloize is bringing the circus to the University of Mississippi, complete with acrobats and musicians, for a Tuesday (Feb. 26) show at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for Performing Arts.

The Canadian ensemble’s “Saloon: A Musical Acrobatic Adventure” is set for 7:30 p.m. Cirque Éloize is one of the leaders in contemporary circus arts and has been creating performances with magic, music and moving performances since 1993.

Audiences can expect a medley of music, theater and dance.

“The show was inspired by our thriving power, the same strength that has motivated us for nearly 25 years,” said Jeannot Painchaud, president and artistic director of Cirque Éloize and the production’s creative director. “We borrow from the world of the ‘Wild West,’ which we have so much in common with: a fundamental commitment to moving forward, toughness and the survival instinct, a tendency for irreverence and a sharing sense of community.”

Shows produced by Cirque Éloize are crafted for a range of audiences and have been embraced by more than 50 cultures around the world. “Saloon” also been has performed in numerous international festivals and has reached both stages in New York, Paris and London’s West End.

The show is fun and high-energy, said Kate Meacham, Ford Center marketing director.

“It has the excitement and thrills of a circus but the music and story of a musical,” she said.

Meacham said she expects a good turnout for this show.

“It’s the kind of performance that appeals to everyone,” she said.

Tickets for “Saloon” range from $30 to $40, with discounts for Ole Miss faculty, staff and retirees. Student tickets are $13 for balcony seating. They are available online at https://olemissboxoffice.com/, by phone at 662-915-7411 or at the Ford Center Box Office.
