OXFORD, Miss. – The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Mississippi is offering its 2020 Friendship Ball just in time for the holidays.

“This is the Ford Center’s third limited-edition cloisonne ornament that we call our Friendship Ball,” said Julia Aubrey, Ford Center director. “I chose the theme ‘The Arts Bring Us Together’ to emphasize that music, theater, dance and visual art transcend all boundaries.”

Aubrey said her design features figures of artists dancing, playing instruments, singing and conducting, and an actor – representing Hamlet addressing Yorick – all circling the globe connected by a string of musical notes.

“The colorful custom orb was created by Kitty Keller Designs and makes a beautiful presentation on a tree or as a conversation piece,” she said. “We consider this annual project to be an important opportunity to celebrate the arts with the Oxford and university communities.”

The balls – both 2019 and 2020 – can be purchased online through the Central Marketplace (https://secure.touchnet.net/C21670_ustores/web/index.jsp) and at the Ford Center during open hours. They are also available during the weekends as part of the performing arts center’s Holiday Village.

The 2020 ball is $50, and the 2019 costs $35. Customers who buy both balls, get the 2019 edition for only $25.

“The 2018 version sold out, so I would encourage people to get them soon,” Aubrey said.
