Award-Winning Acrobatic Company Set to Perform July 30 at Ford Center

OXFORD, Miss. – Recognized as the premier Chinese acrobatic touring company, the Golden Dragon Acrobats are slated to perform July 30 at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

“The Golden Dragon Acrobats are a part of the very long tradition of acrobatic companies in China,” said Kate Meacham, assistant director of marketing for the Ford Center. “They perform amazing feats with mostly just their bodies. I’m fascinated by them.”

The Golden Dragons have traveled the world, performing in all 50 states and more than 65 countries on five continents. Designed and choreographed by Danny Chang and Angela Chang, the show is a combination of award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music, and theatrical techniques.

The show is set for 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for 18 and under, all general admission. They are available by calling 662-915-7411, by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or the Ford Center Box Office at 10 a.m. on the day of the show, or by going to http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/tickets/order.htm.

Besides international acclaim, the Golden Dragons have been presented with the National Association of Campus Activities Entertainer of the Year Award and the Campus Activities Today’s Performer of the Year Award. They are the only Chinese acrobatic company touring year-round in the United States.

Meacham said she is sure the show will entertain.

“It’s really quite an experience,” she said. “It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
