Throughout October, the UM Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement is observing LGBTQ History Month. Activities include various events across the Ole Miss campus, all of which are open to the public.

“LGBTQ History Month provides the opportunity for us as a community to learn about essential members of our university community, tell them how much we value them and make the explicit embrace of the LGBTQ community a standard part of our larger commitment to diversity,” said Jaime Harker, interim director of the Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies.

Join us as we celebrate LGBTQ History Month with these events:

  • Thursday (Oct. 16) – Film Series. “The New Black” will be shown in the Student Union, Room 405 from 3 to 5 p.m. The documentary tells the story of how the African-American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement.
  • Oct. 23 – “Are You Ready? Dialogue Series” This discussion will be in the Student Union, Room 405 from 5 to 6 p.m. Join the Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement for a dialogue about what it is like being LGBTQ in Mississippi and a discussion of issues that affect the LGBTQ community.
