Meet Vernita Ivy, January’s Staff Member of the Month

Vernita Ivy

Vernita Ivy, a production control clerk in the Department of Student Housing, has been selected as Staff Council’s Staff Member of the Month for January. To help us get to know her better, she answered a few questions for Inside Ole Miss.

IOM: How long have you worked at Ole Miss?

Ivy: 9 years and 6 months.

IOM: What is your hometown?

Ivy: Taylor, Mississippi. 

IOM: Talk about your favorite Ole Miss memory? 

Ivy: When Ole Miss beat Alabama in football in 2014. 

IOM: What do you enjoy most about your position or the department in which you work?

Ivy: Helping out students and/or parents that call about their children. Just going that extra mile.

IOM: What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Ivy: Read or have a family night.

IOM: What is one thing on your bucket list?

Ivy: I would love to go to Hawaii.

IOM: What is your favorite movie?

Ivy: “Imitation of Life.”

IOM: What is your favorite Ole Miss tradition?

Ivy: Staff Appreciation Week.

IOM: What is a fun fact about you?

Ivy: I enjoy playing games like Uno, spade and dominos and also spending time with my family.

IOM: If you could have lunch with anyone alive or dead/fictional or real, who would it be and why?

Ivy: Alive – it would be Stephen King; I think he is a wonderful author and my favorite. Dead – it would be my mother, Juanita Ivy. I really miss talking to her.

IOM: What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Ivy: Helpful, trustworthy, loyal.

IOM: If you could visit one time or place in world history (past, present or future), what would it be?

Ivy: The Holy Land, Jerusalem.

IOM: If I could be an animal for a day I would be _____ .

Ivy: White Bengal tiger.
