OXFORD, Miss. – When Nancy Maria Balach, associate professor of music at the University of Mississippi and artistic director of Living Music Resource, gets to South Carolina this weekend, she’s going to hit the ground running.
Balach and two Ole Miss music majors, Maddi Jolley, a master’s student in vocal performance from Paris, Texas, and Carley Wilemon, a junior music education major from Aberdeen, are invited to the College of Charleston to perform as part of a concert of new works by Charleston composers.
While there, the team also will broadcast an episode of the successful streaming show “LMR Live” on location from the campus. The show will feature guests from the College of Charleston’s composition and opera faculty.
“This collaboration is special because it creates a close network between current UM students and a UM alumna,” Balach said. “My former student Tiffany Gammell has established herself as a successful singer and arts administrator in Charleston, and she is taking our students under her wing.”
While at the College of Charleston, the students also will attend classes focused on arts marketing and developing new arts-based businesses, and Balach will lead a master class with the college’s voice students.
Balach remains committed to creating educational experiences that set the Ole Miss Department of Music apart from other institutions. “We create opportunities that prepare UM music majors to be 21st century teaching artists,” she said.
The “LMR Live” show will stream live from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday (March 8). Viewers can access the live stream and, later, watch the archived show, at http://livingmusicresource.com/.
