OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi has, for the fourth year in a row, increased its Military Friendly rating.
This year, UM achieved a Military Friendly Gold rating, the second-highest honor given to colleges and universities. Published by Military Friendly, the rating identifies organizations that invest in programs that improve veterans’ lives.
Moving the Student Veteran Resource Center and Office of Veterans and Military Services under one roof in the newly renovated George Street House went a long way toward the increased rating for the 2021-22 school year, said Andrew Newby, assistant director of veteran and military services.
His office also welcomed Will Mobley, veterans service officer, who helps student veterans access their benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from campus.
“Investing in programs, assistance and resources shows student veterans they are welcome and belong here,” Newby said. “That we’ll help them succeed and serve as a launch pad for the next phase of their life.”
This is the first time Ole Miss has achieved a Military Friendly Gold rating.
