Once you attend the University of Mississippi, you never really leave. Ole Miss is an identity that stays prominent in your life well after graduation, and our alumni are as tied to this university as our current students.
The Alumni Association has more than 26,000 members who offer support to Ole Miss. In fact, although UM is a public university, only 17 percent of its support comes from state appropriations. The rest comes from private donations.
The UM Foundation has been responsible for attracting those private donations and because of the generosity of our alumni, an endowment has been built of more than $493 million.
The M-Club chapter of the Alumni Association also has made strong contributions. In 2012, the chapter donated $1 million to the Forward Together campaign, which is responsible for constructing the new basketball arena and, eventually, a stadium expansion.
Alumni support has also come forward recently through the crowdfunding platform, Ignite Ole Miss. Following the Ole Miss win against Alabama, students and alumni raised $105,000 in less than a week to cover the fine for rushing the field and cost of the goal posts. Within that same week, more than $100,000 was raised for the “I Wear 38” scholarship fund in honor of Chucky Mullins.
The latest campaign on the website is for the School of Pharmacy’s Day of Thanks.
We are so thankful for the continued support of our alumni to constantly improve our great university.
