Day 11: Our Veterans

unnamedThe veterans in the United States military volunteer to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, giving us the opportunity to participate in the many things we love, including attending the University of Mississippi or cheering on Ole Miss football every fall Saturday.

On this Veterans Day, we are thankful and appreciative of their service.

Some 140 student veterans who have served in one of the branches of the U.S. military are attending Ole Miss this fall.

In order to help those veterans more easily transition from the military to college life, the university created the Veterans and Military Services office, run by Michael Howland, a 25-year Army veteran. The office works to provide services to veterans by explaining the orientation process, veteran benefits, student workshops, counseling and academic advisement to make veterans’ time at Ole Miss more accommodating and successful.

The university also offers in-state tuition to all honorably discharged veterans to help lessen the cost of education.

Ole Miss is celebrating military veterans throughout the month of November.
