Ole Miss athletics have really excelled over the last few years.
Athletics Director Ross Bjork arrived on campus in 2012, and most of our sports have enjoyed stellar accomplishments since. The Ole Miss basketball team won the SEC Tournament title in 2013, giving them a bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The Ole Miss baseball team made its first appearance at the College World Series in Omaha since 1972.
And Rebel football has given us the season of a lifetime this year. (Don’t worry, I’ll dedicate another post just to football later this month.)
But we aren’t just excelling in those sports. Ole Miss is good at nearly everything now. Track and field star Sam Kendricks captured the pole vault title in 2013 and 2014 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and the men’s track team finished eighth in 2013, a program record.
Nik Scholtz and Jonas Lutjen advanced to the Final Four in men’s tennis doubles in 2013, and our soccer team won a record 16 games in 2013 and hosted an NCAA Tournament game.
There are some great things going on with Ole Miss athletics, including a new basketball arena and soon-to-be expansion of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
In addition to the sports themselves, we are also fortunate to have such a great production team within athletics that provides us with chilling team motivational videos, game highlights and weekly episodes of “The Season” across multiple sports, which lets us get to know our student-athletes and the ins and outs of our programs.
We are thankful for AD Ross Bjork, our athletics staff and our student-athletes who never fail in giving Ole Miss fans something to believe in and support.
On Friday, Ole Miss men’s and women’s basketball tips off in Tad Smith Coliseum. The women take on Grambling State at 11 a.m., and the men face Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. Tickets are available here.
Keep up with all Rebel sports at OleMissSports.com.
