Day 14: University Museum

unnamedThe University of Mississippi Museum has the widest range of collections of any museum between Jackson and Memphis.

And it’s right here on our beautiful campus.

The museum offers permanent exhibits as well as special shows year-round.

This Georgia O'Keeffe painting is among the museum's highlights.

Its permanent collection includes Greek and Roman antiquities that date back to 1500 B.C., an American art collection featuring a Georgia O’Keeffe painting and a collection of scientific instruments from the 19th century used to teach university students right here at Ole Miss from 1848 to 1861.

But the museum offers so much more. For example, one temporary exhibit is titled “Bloomingdale’s Fashion Touchdown,” featuring unique football helmets by world-famous designers. It will be on display until Jan. 17.

There is something at the museum for everyone, from art enthusiasts and history buffs to science majors and football fans.

The museum also offers several after-school children’s programs to become more engaged in the community. Those programs include weekend and summer children’s programs as well as three Family Activity Days per semester.

We have a wonderful opportunity right here at Ole Miss to view amazing works of art, become more culturally aware and informed and become inspired. And for that, we are thankful.

The museum is celebrating its 75th anniversary and is offering free admission to visitors for the entire year.
