The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning has appointed a 23-member Search Advisory Committee to help select the University of Mississippi’s next chancellor.
The advisory committee will help the Board Search Committee chaired by Amy Whitten of Oxford find a successor to Chancellor Robert Khayat, who retires June 30. The advisory committee was announced March 11 by Interim Commissioner of Education Aubrey K. Lucas.
The committee members were chosen based on recommendations from university and community constituencies to reflect stakeholders in the university community as well as public and private sectors.
Chaired by Alice M. Clark, UM vice chancellor for research and sponsored programs, the committee will identify and forward no less than five of the most capable and qualified applicants and nominees to the Board Search Committee for review. The committee also will participate in the entire interview process.

– Linda F. Chitwood, dean of the School of Applied Sciences and professor of health, exercise science and recreation management

– Jan G. Farrington, representative for the University of Mississippi Foundation and University of Mississippi Alumni Association
– Rose Jackson Flenorl, president of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association
– Shellie Harrison, president of the University of Mississippi Staff Council
– Richard Howorth, mayor of Oxford
– Will Lewis Jr., president of the J. E. Neilson Co.
– Cal Mayo Jr., attorney with Mayo Mallette PLLC
– Susan McClelland, assistant professor of leadership and counselor education
– Timothy Nordstrom, associate professor of political science and director of the Social Science Research Laboratory
– Graham Purcell, president of the Associated Student Body
– Ronald J. Rychlak, associate dean of the School of Law and professor of law
– Larry Sparks, vice chancellor for administration and finance
– Helen R. Turner, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center
– Bonnie Van Ness, chair and associate professor of finance
– Jim Vaughan, associate dean of the School of Engineering and interim director of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence
– Judson Watson, professor of English
– W. Mark Wilder, dean of the School of Accountancy and professor of accountancy
– Wendell Weakley, president and chief executive officer of the University of Mississippi Foundation
– Ethel Young-Minor, associate professor of English and African-American studies
