OXFORD, Miss. – The Mississippi Small Business Development Center has named April Williams as the recipient of this year’s prestigious State Star Award. She was honored during the Small Business Development Center’s recent annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Williams, a training specialist in the Gulf Coast Small Business Development Center, has made outstanding contributions to the small business community in Mississippi, said Sharon Nichols, director of the Mississippi SBDC at the University of Mississippi. She joined the Gulf Coast center in July 2016 as a business consultant and has played a pivotal role in administering entrepreneurship education and training programs across the state.
“One’s greatness doesn’t happen alone; it’s a symphony of innovation, dedication and abundant talent nurtured by our exceptional team,” Williams said. “I accept this recognition by leadership, and my peers, with gratitude, knowing that together, we all continue to create a masterpiece.”
Williams uses her background as a retired U.S. Navy human resources professional and a serial “internet entrepreneur” who became an “accidental exporter” to provide valuable guidance to business owners. She specializes in advising entrepreneurs on the managerial and technical aspects of starting a business, emphasizing the importance of sound financial management, business idea validation and customer development.
“April’s unwavering dedication and expertise have been instrumental in driving the success of our small business community in Mississippi,” said Mitch McDowell, assistant state director of the Mississippi SBDC. “Her impact is undeniable, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.”
