The performance, set for 7:30 p.m., is free to the public.
Among the evening’s repertoire will be a performance of “Lux Aeterna” conducted by guest composer K. Lee Scott, a renowned musician, teacher and composer best known for his church music. The Men’s Glee will premiere this five-movement work that is scored for men’s choir, piano, flute, cello and timpani, and the performance will be recorded for distribution through Hinshaw Music Publications.
“Having the composer as conductor is a unique opportunity, especially when it is the premiere performance,” said Don Trott, UM associate professor of music and director of choral activities.
Scott received two degrees in choral music from the University of Alabama and has published more than 300 compositions. He performs as a guest conductor across the United States, Canada and Africa.
Katie Ashe, a graduate student in choral conducting, will conducting the Women’s Ensemble, and Debra Spurgeon, associate professor of music, will conduct the Women’s Glee.
