Rebels Cruise To Exhibition Win Over Montevallo

Henderson With A Team-High 19 Points

OXFORD, Miss. – Junior Marshall Henderson scored a team-high 19 points, including 14 in the second half, and senior Murphy Holloway added 12 points and six boards as Ole miss cruised to a 77-62 exhibition win over Montevallo on Monday.

Ole Miss will open the regular season this Friday against Mississippi Valley State University at 8:00 p.m. at the Tad Smith Coliseum.

Seniors Reginald Buckner added nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Nick Williams chipped in eight points and five boards, while sophomore point guard Jarvis Summers had five points and a game-high seven assists.

“There is real value in these games,” said Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy who enters his seventh season with the Rebels. “There is something about putting a uniform on and playing in front of the fans. You can tell the guys who haven’t done it very much, because they’re going super fast and not always making the best decision with the ball.”

Henderson, a native of Hurst, Texas, connected on four three-pointers in the second half, on his way to a game-high five threes.

“Marshall (Henderson) has great energy,” said Kennedy. “He really likes to play and has an infectious personality. Tonight is the poorest I have seen him shoot since he has been on our campus and he still goes 6-for-15 (from the field) and 5-for-12 (from three-point).”

Fellow newcomers Martavious Newby, Anthony Perez and Terry Brutus all played double-digit minutes. Newby, a four-star recruit from Memphis, Tenn., scored five points, while Perez scored seven, going 2-2 from behind the three-point arc, and Brutus added three points.

“This team is not bad with our ability to handle the ball,” said Kennedy. “The area of concern is giving up 19 offensive rebounds. We were up by 24 or 25 and we really had a chance to stretch it, we just got passive.”

The Rebels shot 51.9% from the field, while holding the Falcons to 26.5% with nine blocked shots. Troran Brown led the Falcons with 21 points.
