OXFORD, Miss. – For Ole Miss fans coming to the men’s basketball game Saturday, arrive early and check out the No. 11 ranked Ole Miss rifle team as they battle No. 3 Kentucky at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. The match begins at 8 a.m. and admission is free.
It’s been nearly two months since the Rebels’ last match. The Rebels concluded the fall with third place finishes at the Tiger Invitational and the Ole Miss Invitational and wins over Murray State and N.C. State.
Despite the layoff, head coach Valerie Boothe is confident her team is ready for the challenge ahead as they make a push to qualify for the NCAA Championships in March.
“We expect a tough match out of Kentucky,” Boothe said. “We’ve been training since just after the beginning of the year to be prepared for this part of the season, and I think it will show. These ladies are ready to shoot.”
The Wildcats come into Saturday’s match at 7-1 after beating No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks 4705-4687 on Jan. 13.
The Kentucky match is the first of two top-10 match-ups this holiday weekend, as the Rebels will host No. 10 Memphis Monday at 9 a.m.
The Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center is located on Sisk Ave. off Hwy. 7.
