MADISON, Miss. – Sophomore Joe Lewis carded a 4-under par 68 to lead Ole Miss in the first round of the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate on Monday at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison.
The Rebels, who hosted the event, opened with a 4-under par team score of 288 in the first round aided by Lewis’ 68 and currently sits in fifth after two rounds. Lewis’ opening round included four birdies and no bogeys. He carded a 4-over 76 in the second round to finish the day in 12th place at even par.
Sophomore Blake Morris shot an even par opening round of 72 that included three birdies and followed with a 2-over 74 in the afternoon to finish in a tie for 16th after the first day. Freshman Connor Davis is also tied for 16th after back-to-back rounds of 73 on Monday. Follow freshman Forrest Gamble fired a 1-under 71 in the first round of the day that included five birdies, but followed with a 6-over in the afternoon and is currently tied for 31st.
“We played OK in the morning, thanks in large part to Joe Lewis with a great 68,” said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. “I was really disappointed with our play this afternoon. We lost our proper attitude and seemed like we had a hopeless attitude, not enough fire or determination. We need a new attitude tomorrow.”
Junior Tom Brown is tied for 47th after turning in a 74 in the morning round and followed with a 78 in the second round, while freshman Chris Ingham, who is competing as individual, fired a 75 and a 76 and is tied for 40th.
The third and final round of the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate will conclude tomorrow morning at the Reunion Golf and Country Club.
