Long gone are the days of waiting for the morning paper to see if your favorite team was victorious in the previous night’s game. Fans all over the country are turning to social media for up to the second updates about their favorite team.
During Wednesday’s (May 21) St. Louis Cardinals game, the team’s official account tweeted 46 times. The tweets included score updates, instant video packages, pitching changes and much more. This social media trend doesn’t stop with Twitter, it also includes Instagram and Facebook. After each Cardinals game, they post an Instagram photo with an eye-catching image from the game and the box score, giving followers an instant insight into the game.
Aside from the instant updates on your team, fans are able to have firsthand access to their favorite players. When I was growing up, we used to wait outside the Cardinals’ stadium for Willie McGee to head to his car to try and talk to him. With social media, fans are able to tweet at their favorite players at anytime. Although they might not always respond, the ease of access to a professional ballplayer’s life has increased with the growth of social media.
Now that I’m done bragging on how well my favorite team utilizes social media, I suggest that you check out your favorite teams page. This list is a handy tool to help you find all of the exclusive content your team is sharing with its fans.
