Way back when the venerable Olmsted family of architects conceived a master plan for the Ole Miss campus, they probably never knew their designs would one day align perfectly with the values of one of the fast-growing social networks today: Instagram.
Ole Miss is easily the most ‘Instagrammable’ campus in the country. Don’t believe me? Check out these eight photos.
1. Fall is one of the prettiest times to be on campus and there’s no feeling quite like experiencing the colors of the season during the week that the colors turn.
2. Do you see a Grove full of plastic trash cans? Not me. I see the beginning of football season and the Grove being prepped for the revelry that is Ole Miss Football.
3. Even on gloomy days, campus is gorgeous. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the university claims three champion trees (this Northern Catalpa sits next to the Student Union).
4. UM Communications Specialist Dennis Irwin was in the right place (on top of Shoemaker Hall) at the right time (before 6 a.m.) prior to the Ole Miss vs. Arkansas football game.
5. There’s something special about snow in Mississippi. While it doesn’t happen too often, when my colleague Michael Newsom braved the cold earlier this year to capture these images of a snow-filled Circle and Grove, it was Instagram gold.
6. When you think of Spring at Ole Miss, the daffodils in front of Barnard Observatory are a sign that brighter days are ahead.
7. Not my view every day, but it’s a great one to have over in the Lyceum.
8. A view we all remember (or look forward to) all too well. The thousands of chairs prepared for Commencement create some of the most interesting angles on campus and trigger memories of past leaders to have occupied these same chairs in previous years.
All of these photos were taken by University Communications representatives (believe it or not!). For more awesome shots of campus and the Ole Miss community, check us out on Instagram!
