UM Gives Farmers Free Legal Advice Friday in Goodman

Representatives from the University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic will provide free consultations about business and legal issues as part of a field day for small-scale fruit and vegetable farmers Friday in Goodman.

The field day runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday (Oct. 17) at the Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production Demonstration Farm, which is at 1184 Coleman Road, about a mile southwest of U.S. 51. The goal of the field day is to help farmers learn to create and follow a financial plan, which can help growers return profits.

Assistance also will be provided by Velma Oliver, a farm management and loan specialist from Alcorn State University, who will give instruction about record keeping and budgeting, and Steve Murray a planner with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, who will demonstrate using computers for financial records.

The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required. Lunch and all required materials will be supplied. For more information, call 601-988-4999 or email keithmdp@yahoo.com.
