OXFORD, Miss. — Four University Police Department officers were joined by family and friends to celebrate their promotion to the rank of sergeant during a recent pinning ceremony.

Chief of Police Tim Potts said the time-honored tradition is a special one for uniformed services.

“This is a chance to recognize the police in the trenches every day,” Potts said. “I think any time you’re able to recognize officers for the work that they’ve done makes you feel good.”

The honorees pinned with their new chevrons at the ceremony were: Jesse Richards, Shayla Mcquire, Michael Hughes and William Anderson.

The new sergeants look forward to their role as leaders within the University Police Department and the Ole Miss community.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this current leadership and I’m happy to be a part of a department that is community oriented,” Richards said.
