The University of Mississippi’s hockey club looks to build off of last year’s second consecutive national tournament appearance.
Though the schedule for the this fall’s season is still being finalized, Ole Miss looks to build upon one of their best teams in the program’s short history. By winning their regional tournament last year, the Rebs secured a bid to nationals for the second straight year. The team posted a record of 15-9-1 with two postseason wins. Notably, the team posted victories over Missouri State, Indiana Ft. Wayne and Grand Valley State, but none was bigger than the series win over conference foe Alabama.
“This might be one of the toughest schedules we’ve had,” head coach Angelo Rosena said. “It’s a weighted schedule, so if we want to be ranked high we need to win against good teams. Also now that we have been successful the last few seasons we have more teams reaching out to us trying to schedule games.”
Some of the tougher opponents on the schedule include Kennesaw State, a previously top ranked team in the nation. The schedule also includes 3 teams – Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, and Central Florida – that represented the south at the national tournament last season.
Another exciting matchup will be against Liberty, – a team looking to return to the regional tournament. This matchup will be more pressing for Ole Miss this season because they look to show the strength of the SEC versus the Blue Ridge Conference.
