Attorney To Discuss His Recent Case Before the U.S. Supreme Court

OXFORD, Miss. – Just a week after arguing a high-profile Second Amendment case before the U.S. Supreme Court, attorney Alan Gura will discuss the case Tuesday (March 9) at the University of Mississippi School of Law.

Gura presented his oral arguments March 2 in the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago before the Supreme Court. The case focuses on a petition to overturn a handgun ban and other aspects of gun registration regulations affecting rifles and shotguns. Gura also represented the plaintiff in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) arguing that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to “keep and bear arms.”

Gura’s presentation is open to the public and is set for 6:30 p.m. in the William N. Ethridge Moot Court Room at the Lamar Law Center. A reception will follow in the lobby outside Moot Court Room I.

The event is sponsored by the University of Mississippi Federalist Society Student Chapter. For more information or for assistance related to a disability, call 662-915-6900 or e-mail clamb@olemiss.edu.
