Annual Miss University Pageant Set for Feb. 1 at Ford Center

Twelve University of Mississippi students are set to show off their poise, talent and interview skills at the annual Miss University pageant, slated for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1) at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

The winner will be crowned Miss University and will advance to the Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant in June in Vicksburg.

The Student Programming Board and the Department of Campus Programming host the annual pageant. Tickets, available at the UM Box Office in the Student Union, are $10 for Ole Miss students and $15 for the general public.

Katherine Barkett, reigning Miss University, and Mary Margaret Roark, Miss Mississippi 2011, will be the co-masters of ceremonies for the event. Roark will perform her talent from the Miss America pageant and speak about her reign as Miss Mississippi and her experience at the Miss America competition.

All contestants will participate in a private interview with a panel of five judges the day of the pageant, and that interview will count as 25 percent of their scores. That evening, contestant will take part in talent, swimwear, evening wear and on-stage interview competitions.
