Robert Malone artwork on display in New Orleans
A collection of clear air landscape paintings by a University of Mississippi professor debuts this weekend in New Orleans at the Carol Robinson Gallery.
Robert Malone, UM adjunct instructor of studio art, has been studying scenery on the Gulf Coast from Ocean Springs to Bay St. Louis and New Orleans over the last year to develop these works, which form the exhibit titled “Marshland Sky.”
“This show is about modern sensibility and environmentalism,” Malone said. “All my work is about emotionalism and spiritualism, not intellectual endeavors. It’s about the earth and the human relationship to it.”
Malone is a native of Trenton, Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the Memphis College of Art and his M.F.A. in painting at Ole Miss in 1993. He has been an instructor in the UM art department since 1997. His work is on display at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans as well as in numerous personal collections across the world.
The opening reception for the exhibit is set for 6-8 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 9) at the Carol Robinson Gallery, 840 Napoleon Ave. in New Orleans. The exhibit will be on display in the gallery through Jan. 30.
