First Rebel Trail Challenge Set for Nov. 15

Do you have what it takes to be a Rebel?

On Nov. 15, you’ll get a chance to prove it at the Rebel Trail Challenge, organized by the University of Mississippi’s Department of Campus Recreation.

The race, modeled after Warrior Dash or Spartan Race, features a 4-mile route on Thacker Mountain Trails (also known as the Whirlpool or Old Taylor Trails) with obstacles including mud, water and hills. The obstacles will be both natural and manmade, graduate assistant Katherine Westfall said.

“We want to accentuate the natural elements of the trail and work with the natural topography of the area,” Westfall said.

This is the first year for the event, co-hosted by the Office of Veterans and Military Services, and it involves a physical challenge that incorporates a military component, said Shannon Richardson, Campus Recreation assistant director.

“It’s an adventurous event that raises awareness that the Office of Veterans and Military Services exists and recognizes their service,” she said.

The race has several different divisions for rookie and elite runners. Registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt. All proceeds go to help fund student scholarships for campus recreation and military services.

Registration is open to everyone.
