Gillom Is Ole Miss’ Third WBHOF Inductee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Peggie Gillom became Ole Miss’ third Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (WBHOF) inductee Monday, being named as one of the six-member Hall of Fame class for 2013, the WBHOF announced today.
“I am truly humbled,” Gillom said, who will be inducted as a player. “It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I am honored to be inducted with all of these other Hall of Fame class inductees, some that I’ve played against and some that I’ve coached against. All I can think about – to be in the Hall of Fame along with my sister Jennifer and along with so many other great people – is that God is not through with me yet.”

In addition to Gillom, the other members of the 2013 Hall of Fame class are: Gary Blair (coach); Jim Foster (coach); Jen Rizzotti (player); Annette Smith-Knight (player) and Sue Wicks (player). The class was announced by the WBHOF during the USA versus Brazil game at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., Monday night. The Class of 2013 will be formally introduced at the 2012 State Farm Tip-Off Classic between Baylor and Kentucky on November 13th in Waco, Texas and inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on June 8, 2013 in Knoxville, Tenn.
A four-year starting forward at Ole Miss and two-time All-American, Gillom is the Rebels’ all-time leading scorer (2,486 points) and rebounder (1,271). She is one of two players at Ole Miss to ever score more than 2,000 points and grab more than 1,000 rebounds. Gillom was inducted into the Ole Miss Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996, into the Mississippi Sport Hall of Fame in 1997 and was a finalist for the 1980 Wade Trophy. In addition, Gillom served as an assistant/associate coach at Ole Miss for over 20 years and won a gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games as an assistant coach with Team USA.
Former Ole Miss coach Van Chancellor was inducted into the WBHOF in 2001 and Gillom’s sister and former Ole Miss All-American, Jennifer, was inducted in 2009.
In order to be considered for selection for induction into the WBHOF, an individual must meet the following prerequisites:
Player: Must be retired from the highest level of play for at least five years
Coach: Must have coached the women’s game at least 20 years
Referee: Must have officiated the women’s game at least 10 years
Contributor: Must have significantly impacted the game of women’s basketball
