OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi hosts a Graduate School Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 8), giving prospective students an opportunity to check out all that the university has to offer.
The event begins with a welcome session in Bondurant Hall, Room 204C. It will give attendees a chance to hear from administrators and graduate students, discuss research opportunities and programs with faculty members, and get a campus tour.
Nearly 100 different master’s, specialist and doctoral programs are offered through the Graduate School.
“We started the annual Graduate School Expo to build awareness of the outstanding graduate programs we have at the University of Mississippi,” said Robert J. Doerksen, the school’s associate dean. “Attendees get to see what the university is like and to interact with people from a particular degree program of interest to them, which can inspire them to come here for their graduate education.”
This is the third time Ole Miss has offered an expo of graduate opportunities. There is no fee to attend, but registration is required. The form to register can be found on the event’s website.
The Graduate School is also offering 20 travel reimbursements of up to $200 per eligible applicant. The deadline to register is Wednesday (Feb. 6).
Finding the right program is often a daunting task, said Brenteria Travis, UM manager of graduate admissions. The expo aims to help make that process as easy as possible.
“Our expo is designed so that prospective students can receive clear insight into our degree offerings and application process,” Travis said.
“Once students are on campus, they are given the opportunity to meet and talk with faculty members in their field of study. This interaction alleviates apprehension and cultivates dialogue beyond the expo with faculty.”
