OXFORD, Miss. – In honor of Heart Health Month, University of Mississippi employees are invited to participate in training to learn to prevent and control hypertension and heart disease.
The training, at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 23), is slated for the Garland Annex, Room 102. Anita Kipping, a registered nurse at Employee Health Service, will guide employees in simple-to-remember techniques for reducing blood pressure and controlling cholesterol.
“This is a one-hour educational class on understanding what your blood pressure numbers mean and how hypertension affects the body,” said Kipping, who has been teaching this class for five years. “Participants will learn creative ways of developing healthier habits that puts them in control of what works best for each person.
“We will discuss a 30% ‘give-and-take’ rule in making lifestyle changes that really work in becoming heart healthy.”
The first 10 employees to sign up get a free blood pressure monitor.
“Come learn tips about how to achieve a healthier lifestyle,” said Alex Langhart, director of university health at the V.B. Harrison Health Center.
