They are available by calling 662-915-7411 or by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays.“This is destined to be a remarkable concert – a great band coupled with the Ford Center’s atmosphere and outstanding arrangements,” said Kate Meacham, assistant director of marketing for the Ford Center. “The Glenn Miller Orchestra has continues to kept his way of presenting the music alive.”
Glenn Miller, an American jazz musician, arranger and composer, was one of the most successful dance bandleaders in the swing era of the 1930s and ’40s. In 1942, he broke up his band and volunteered for the Army to lead the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. On Dec. 15, 1944, Miller’s plane disappeared en route to France. He was pronounced dead a year later.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 as a tribute to Miller’s memory. The orchestra has been performing since to positive reviews.
“If you love big band music, this is one of the top big band orchestras around,” Meacham said. “If you just like good music, there will be top-quality musicians that are playing many well-known songs and pieces. It will be a lot of fun.”
