Glenn Storey Schove, administrative coordinator II in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric, has been selected as Staff Council’s Staff Member of the Month for March. To help us get to know her better, she answered a few questions for Inside Ole Miss.
IOM: How long have you worked at Ole Miss?
Schove: 10 years as an employee of the UM and 10 years as an employee of the Croft Institute for International Studies.
IOM: What is your hometown?
Schove: Booneville, Mississippi.
IOM: Talk about your favorite Ole Miss memory.
Schove: Working with two separate programs from the ground up has been an honor. The Croft Institute opened its doors to students in August of 1998, and that’s when I began working as the institute’s receptionist. Serving some of the most high-achieving undergraduates on our campus was a privilege.
Then, in 2009, I was given the opportunity to assist in the development of a center, which grew into a department: the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. The DWR serves our students through the offering of the freshman writing courses as well as two new minors: professional writing and also digital media studies. To witness growth and enhancement in the quality of education offered to our students over the past 20 years makes me proud.
IOM: What do you enjoy most about your position or the department in which you work?
Schove: The DWR faculty are amazing! I don’t believe you can easily find another group of 100 people from varying backgrounds who are more respectful of one another than those that I work with. The camaraderie that exists has created a productive and pleasant work environment, and I enjoy being part of it.
IOM: What do you like to do when you are not at work?
Schove: I love cycling and Pilates classes, which is a good thing because I also enjoy cooking and eating with my family.
IOM: What is one thing on your bucket list?
Schove: I hope that by the time I’m 60, my husband and I are in a position to take an RV across the country for a monthlong trip.
IOM: What is your favorite movie?
Schove: I love classic thrillers and horror movies, but most recently my favorite movie has been “Get Out,” which was written and directed by Jordan Peele.
IOM: What is your favorite Ole Miss tradition?
Schove: Considering our home is less than a mile from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, my favorite tradition has become offering refreshments and welcoming friends and family onto our back porch after Ole Miss football games.
IOM: If you could have lunch with anyone alive or dead/fictional or real, who would it be and why?
Schove: My mother, Mary Virginia Storey, when she was my age. She lived to be almost 91 and was a force of nature. She was the hardest-working person I’ve ever known and she lived life to the fullest. She raised seven children, never slowed down and never met a stranger.
IOM: If I could be an animal for a day, I would be _____ .
Schove: My black lab, Scout, who is the most spoiled creature on this planet.
