OXFORD, Miss. – University of Mississippi students are springing into action this week to make the university a healthier place, planning an array of activities that range from a 5K run to Zumba with glow sticks.

An initiative of the Mississippi Public Universities Student Body Presidents Council, Spring into Health Week encourages students at Mississippi’s eight public universities to lead healthier lives through a variety of fun activities focusing on nutrition, exercise and overall wellness.

UM students got into the groove Monday evening with “Groove and Glow,” an event featuring Zumba, Turbo Kick and step events with glow sticks. The Otter 5K Run, sponsored by Sigma Nu Fraternity, begins on campus at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 26). Also on Wednesday, students can participate in yoga on the Grove Stage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Associated Student Body President Gregory Alston serves as president of the MPU Student Body Presidents Council, which comprises student body presidents from all the state’s public universities.
