Natalie Gleadall Earns Third Place
OXFORD, Miss. – Natalie Gleadall earned her second top-five finish of the year at the BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate, as the Ole Miss women’s golf team completed play in third place on a beautiful Easter Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Going into the final round four strokes behind first-place No. 17 Baylor, the Rebels could not keep pace with the Bears, who finished at a 7-over 871 for the tournament. Tulsa fired an impressive 288 Sunday to take second place.
Baylor’s Jaclyn Jensen earned medalist honors with a 6-under for the tournament, besting Marita Engzelius of Tulsa by one stroke.
I am proud of our team this week,” said Ole Miss head coach Michele Drinkard. “This was our best tournament since Charleston back in September. We are really starting to peak at the right time of the year as we prepare for the SEC Championship and the NCAA Regionals.”
Gleadall finished in third place, carding a team-best 74 in the final round to finish the event at 2-under. For Gleadall, the 214 total marked her best 54-hole score of the season. The senior picked up her second top-five finish of the 2011-12 campaign and the fifth of her career.
“Natalie had a tremendous tournament,” said Drinkard. “She is really starting to come into her game now. We look forward to watching her compete in our postseason.”
Haley Millsap earned her second career and second consecutive top-10 with an eighth-place finish. The Pace, Fla., native carded a 76 after back-to-back 73’s in the first two rounds.
“If just a few more putts had fallen this week, she [Millsap] could have pushed the leaders,” said Drinkard. “But I also like the way she is playing going into the post season.”
Juniors Ericka Schneider and Haley Sanders each earned top-20’s, concluding play at 9-over. For Schneider, it marks her second consecutive finish in the top-20, while it is the third top-20 for Sanders this season.
