Ole Miss Outdoors, part of the University of Mississippi Department of Campus Recreation, offers a whole range of exciting adventure opportunities and tutorials for students, faculty, staff and community members, all geared to interests from bass fishing to rock climbing and everything in between.
Being situated in north Mississippi allows easy access to recreational areas in Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.
Trips and clinics range from $20 to $110 for students and $25 to $120 for everyone else. The fee includes all camping supplies, travel and most meals.
This fall, adventure seekers have plenty of options. Here’s a look at some of the highlights of OMOD’s upcoming fall schedule.
- Beach Camping and Sea Kayaking – Sept. 18-20, Ocean Springs
- Canoeing the Yalobusha River and Yokna Bottoms – Oct. 11, Grenada and Oxford
- Top Rope Rock Climbing – Oct. 16-18, Ozark National Forest, Arkansas
- Standup Paddle Boarding the Ghost River – Oct. 25, Moscow, Tennessee
The schedule is built around football season, so you’ll never miss a home game! Football on Saturday, canoeing on Sunday. The weekends don’t get much better than that!
For the grand finale of the semester, Ole Miss Outdoors will travel to Vail, Colorado, for its annual ski trip Dec. 13 to 19. For a total cost of $720, participants get lodging at the Marriott Streamside Douglas at Vail, four days of lift tickets and sport-ski rentals. The only thing that isn’t included is airfare. If you don’t want to fly, you can ride with Ole Miss Outdoors for an additional $120.
That’s a pretty sweet deal for a weeklong vacation, so if you’re looking for a different type of recreation, this is it.
Spaces for adventure trips are limited. To register for a trip, visit the Ole Miss Outdoors office, in the Turner Center, Room 110. For more information, visit http://campusrec.olemiss.edu.
