It’s officially summertime at Ole Miss. College baseball has ended, “Game of Thrones” no longer occupies my Sunday nights and I binge-watched “Orange is the New Black” weeks ago.
So, what on earth are we supposed to watch on television? Turns out, Ole Miss and Oxford are represented on two hit shows this month.
Theatre alumna takes a bite out of “MasterChef”
For the past five weeks, Ole Miss alumna Elise Mayfield (B.F.A. in Musical Theater) has been going head-to-head with some of the best home cooks in America on season five of Fox’s “MasterChef.” She’s cooked from mystery boxes, prepped dishes on the beach and met Gordon Ramsay multiple times. Despite fierce competition, Elise is still in the running. We’ll be rooting for our fellow Ole Miss Rebel at 7 p.m. tonight in the latest challenge. You can catch up on episodes online and even try some of Elise’s recipes by checking out her blog.
Oxford native competes in “Last Comic Standing”
Oxford native Karlous Miller is a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” Miller is impressing a panel of judges that includes Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Amy Schumer. While he moved to Atlanta in 2005 to pursue comedy, Karlous was born and raised in Oxford and worked as a firefighter. Karlous began the competition as one of 100 comedians, and is now in the top 10. Catch up on past episodes here, and tune in for the next episode on Thursday, July 3 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
