The University of Mississippi invites children and their families to the Turner Center swimming pool at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (June 18) to take part in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, a national effort to promote awareness of the importance of swim lessons.
Thousands of families at aquatics facilities around the world are expected to participate in the lesson in hopes of breaking the Guinness World Record, while also spreading the word that swim lessons save lives. Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death in children ages 1 to 5, but most cases can be prevented through education.
The Department of Campus Recreation is hosting the local event for the entire community. It is free and open to all children at least 6 months old and their families.
