All 18 athletic teams have scored well above the national cutoff for the academic progress rate (APR)

OXFORD, Miss. – While excelling on the fields and courts, Ole Miss student-athletes have achieved academic success as well, with all 18 teams scoring well above the national cutoff standard in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, released by the NCAA Wednesday.

Eleven athletics teams at Ole Miss posted multi-year APR scores at or above the national average for Division I in their respective sports, and three teams achieved a perfect 1000 score.

“Graduation and retention are key markers of academic and athletic success,” said senior associate athletics director Derek Cowherd. “Overall, we are pleased with the work of our staff, coaches, and our student-athletes who continue to move towards graduating at a higher percentage.   Our goal is to consistently post a strong number of teams in the top 10% of all institutions in graduation and retention.”

The latest multi-year APR results cover the four-year period extending from the 2009-10 through 2012-13 school years.

Women’s Cross Country, women’s golf, and volleyball received public recognition awards last week from the NCAA for posting multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of their particular sport.  Women’s golf received the award for the sixth year in a row.

Joining those three sports with perfect scores for the 2012-13 year are baseball, men’s golf and softball.

Baseball (977), men’s basketball (974), men’s cross country (981), men’s tennis (977), women’s cross country (1000), women’s golf (1000), women’s softball (993), women’s tennis (993), women’s outdoor track (983), volleyball (1000) and rifle (985), all posted multi-year APR scores at or above the national average for Division I.

The Academic Progress Rate (APR) is a measure of classroom performance related to all participating NCAA Division I athletic programs. It is considered to be the NCAA’s “real-time” snapshot of academic progress, graduation and retention. Schools that fail to reach the NCAA’s minimum score can receive penalties that include loss of scholarships, public admonishment, restrictions on practice and competition and even expulsion from the NCAA.
