OXFORD, Miss. – Coming off a solid performance in a win over No. 9 Memphis, the No. 12 ranked Ole Miss rifle team looks to keep it going this Saturday as they host No. 13 Navy at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. The match begins at 8 a.m. and admission is free.
Fans are encouraged to check out the team before they head over to Tad Smith Coliseum to watch the men’s basketball team take on Missouri.
“This is our last GARC match of the season, and we really want the win,” head coach Valerie Boothe said. “Navy, like us, has been gaining ground, and has a rich tradition of being nationally ranked. It should be a pretty evenly matched competition. It’s always tough to have a mid-week match and then have to hit it again on the weekend. There’s just not as much time to recover, but we welcome the challenge. The team is ready to shoot!”
Speaking of the mid-week match, the Rebels posted a season-high 4646 aggregate score to beat Memphis by one. Senior Melissa Quartarone paced the team in smallbore with a 585, one off her career-best, while freshman Alison Weisz turned in a 594 in air rifle, one off the school record, to lead the Rebels there.
Ole Miss edged Navy, who joined the GARC this year, by five last year in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen are coming off a loss to rival Army in their last match.
The Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center is located off Hwy 7 and Sisk Ave.
