UM to Host National Anthem Auditions

Individuals and groups encouraged to try out

Open auditions to be held Friday, Sept. 13 from 4 to 6 p.m.

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi Athletics Department and the Department of Music are looking for national anthem performers during open auditions on Friday (Sept. 13).

The auditions are set for 4 to 6 p.m. in Nutt Auditorium on University Avenue, across from the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

UM faculty, staff and students, along with the general public, are invited to participate. Solo performances, ensemble and collaborative auditions are encouraged. Individuals or groups chosen at the auditions will perform the anthem at various athletic events on campus, except football games.

Auditions may be either vocal or instrumental. All vocal auditions must be performed a cappella and each performance must be under 90 seconds in length. No pre-recorded auditions are permitted.

“The national anthem is important to our fans and game experience,” said Jason List, assistant athletics director for marketing and fan experience. “It sets the tone for the beginning of each athletics event. Opening the auditions to the public will give us a chance to have community involvement, giving people a personal connection to our teams and venues”

This is the only time auditions will be conducted this year. For more information, contact the music department by email at jaubrey@olemiss.edu.
