MAUI, Hawai’i – Behind the play of junior Stani Schiavone, the Ole Miss women’s golf team maintained its top 10 spot closing the day in seventh at the Aunenue Spring Break Classic on Tuesday (March 25). Schiavone led the Rebels with a round of 74. Ole Miss has a two-day score of 605 (303-302 – 605).

“We started off better and played well most of the round, but we missed some opportunities with our short game on the closing holes which left a bad taste in our mouth,” said head coach Michele Drinkard. “The good news is we start on the same holes tomorrow and look forward to redeeming ourselves.”
The Rebels, who are seeking their second consecutive top 5 finish, are just three strokes out of fourth place and are also just a stroke behind No. 49 Colorado, who is sitting in sixth place.
Schiavone had a great outing and lead the Rebels with five birdies on the afternoon. The Pennsylvania native had a great outing on the front nine, shooting even par with three birdies. The junior closed the round with 2-over par on the back nine en route to her round of 74. Schiavone is sitting in 14th place entering the final round.
“Taelor (Rubin) rebounded nicely today and got off to better start,” said Drinkard. “As did Stani (Schiavone) starting off with two birdies.
Taelor Rubin also had an excellent second round. After carding a 10-over par 82 in opening round action, the Cary, N.C., native rebounded with a round of 3-over par 75 and moved into a tie for 50th place after opening the day in 68th.
Maria Toennessen carded a 4-over par 76 in second-day action and played great on the back nine, shooting even par after shooting 4-over par on the front nine. Abby Newton and Alison Hovatter each shot 5-over 77 with both struggling slightly on the front nine. Newton played the back nine 1-under par while Hovatter was 1-over on the back nine.
In the individual competition, Kaitlin Voll continues to lead the individuals carding her second consecutive round of 3-over par 75. Voll’s rounds of 75 tie her career-low in a round of 18.
