Ole Miss Women’s Council Scholars had front-row seats when former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw delivered a recent lecture at the University of Mississippi. The students (from left) included Caitlin Adams of Columbia, Mo., John James of Corinth, Brittany Simpson of New Albany, Brokaw, Whitney White of Hattiesburg, Ryan Speights (from left, back row) of Purvis, Emily Monsour of Jackson, Troy Jackson of Madison, and E. J. Edney of Clinton. After the presentation, the students had an opportunity to visit backstage with Brokaw, who was on campus for several days. The OMWC awards scholarships to young men and women who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and a desire to give back to society through community service. The scholarships are enhanced with mentoring and leadership training, as well as other opportunities.
